Conversations Inviting Change: Narrative-Based Practice for Health and Social Care
Why is listening to a story more effective than “taking a history”? This video demonstrates a narrative-based approach to health care consultations using “Conversations Inviting Change” (CIC).
We’re delighted to launch a new video on the ANPH YouTube channel, demonstrating a narrative-based approach to health care consultations using “Conversations Inviting Change” (CIC). Very many thanks to Niki Jones for acting in a role play consultation with John Launer, based on her own illness experiences, and also to Professor Joanne Reeve who interviews John about CIC in the introduction and afterwards. We’re also very grateful to Suni Perera and Jason Merry for editing the recording to make an outstanding resource for teaching and learning CIC. Facilitating Small Groups Online
The Covid pandemic has presented challenges to educators and learners who are used to live classroom teaching. They have had to adapt very rapidly to online platforms such as Zoom. In a short talk to facilitators preparing for a training in Kent on dealing with domestic abuse, John Launer explains how he has developed a ‘minimalist’ approach that encourages small groups to share their ideas. The approach has proved useful both in teaching CIC and more generally. To watch John’s six-minute talk, click the link below.
